Late Friday evening, TheBlaze late-night editor Oliver Darcy and Josiah Ryan, a reporter for the The Blaze, were headed downtown after celebrating late-night editor Oliver Darcy birthday at an establishment near the newsroom when they encountered an enormous New York City rat with New York City attitude loitering on the platform, possibly awaiting the train.

Josiah Ryan, Being a journalist, whipped out his always-present camera capturing an actual rat attack to immortalize the creature for you and for posterity.

"What happened next permanently shook my faith in the détente I once thought existed between man and beast in New York City," he wrote in his personal account at TheBlaze.

Ryan, who took a ribbing on his Twitter account, was uninjured.

As the video above shows, The rat passed nearby then sprinted toward him, but disappeared at the moment of crisis eliciting a scream from the journalist.

"I admit it wasn't my finest moment, survived the onslaught with no bodily harm. The only damage was to my dignity." he told KPIX.

Ryan suggested to the station that perhaps the rat didn't like being recorded. "I don't know how smart they are," he said.

But be warned. The social contract between man and rodent has dissolved.

Here’s the raw and terrifying footage
